ABOUT
Willie XAIWOUTH (b. 2001, Sainyabouli, Laos) is a multidisciplinary artist working across installation, photography, painting, animation, and performance. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National Institute of Fine Arts, Laos. His practice explores ecology, cultural memory, identity, and environmental transformation through organic and locally sourced materials. Drawing from personal experiences and indigenous knowledge, he creates works that connect local narratives with broader global conversations.
Since 2019, he has been a member of Elevation Laos and co-founded Lost Jigsaw in 2023, an artist collective dedicated to promoting contemporary art in Laos through exhibitions, research, and community-based initiatives.
His recent recognitions include the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum Artist Residency (Japan, 2025), the Dogma Prize Award (Vietnam, 2025) and GMS Artist Residency (Thailand, 2024). His work has been presented internationally in Laos, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, Australia, and the Philippines.
