In contemporary times, we are living in a chaotic world, from climate crisis to global politics. Industrialization and technology not only bring us wellbeing, but also chain problems. For socio-economic development as well as the wealth of nations, we have to pay with cultural-natural degradation, including the Mekong River Basin.
In colonization times, The Mekong River has been used as the borderline between territories. The relationship between both sides of the river has changed since then. Local communities that share cultural identity and practices become different national identities and reactions in the present.
Today, that thread is fraying. We are trading a rich cultural heritage for industrial "progress." As the landscape changes, we must ask: what is the true cost of our development?
Culture and Climate Collaboration in close partnership with ຊົງລາວ Song Lao Space and Sofitel Luang Prabang. We move in friendship with The Tamper Coffee & Studio , Aglaia Docufilms, and friends, whose collective support makes this artistic exploration possible.
A maiden voyage under the theme “What The Mekong Carries”, which is the project that brings an artistic journey from Houayxay to Luang Prabang by 11 artists from across Laos. They will develop their artworks during a two-day boat journey along the Mekong river. Upon arrival, they will continue their creative process in Luang Prabang, culminating in an art exhibition at Sofitel Luang Prabang.
